Junkyard King
by Lucien LaMotte and James Maltese
V1
There were classic cars in the front yard
Broke down and beat up machines
That old guy’s stuff was covered in rust
But to him it was all part of the dream
I was the kid next door hangin’ ‘round all day
Watchin’ him trade two-bit buys and one of a kinds
I could see how he’d read a man’s face
And find his price between the lines
CH
I learned about fixin’ cars and old guitars
And to see the world a different way
When it don’t look like much, who’s to judge
What’s worth keepin’ or throwin’ away
Some folks saw a fool and his things
I saw a junkyard king
V2
He showed me how the parts fit together
And that the secret to a man’s treasure
Wasn’t whether somethin’s new or somethin’s old
It’s knowin’ it don’t need no glitter to be gold
CH
I learned about fixin’ cars and old guitars
And to see the world a different way
When it don’t look like much, who’s to judge
What’s worth keepin’ or throwin’ away
Some folks saw a fool and his things
I saw a junkyard king
BR
He made his last trade
And they hauled his stuff away
But there was one thing I was able to save
CH
I still got his old six string and when I play this thing
I see the world in a different way
When it don’t look like much, who’s to judge
What’s worth keepin’ or throwin’ away
Some folks saw a fool and his things
I saw a junkyard king
