California turned golden in a technology explosion
A second gold rush for the new pioneers
but the futures they sold were lies they told
cashing in on bankrupt promises

In Washington the air is clouded by political affairs
big money lobbying to buy horses in the race
War is the policies they know, but to them it's just a show
watching bodies pile up like dollar bills

For you and me the state is misery
where it's pouring down twelve months a year
In New York the saying goes, "It's on with the show"
but when the curtain falls it's no longer make believe

It's business as usual in that lone star state
where energy prices are served at cut throat rates
the well they're sinkin' in is filled with greed and one of sin
the ride they're on is bound straight for hell

For now you and me the state is misery
